Best Start is a provincial early learning and child care initiative designed to provide more access to licensed child care and early learning opportunities for Ontario families. The primary goal of Best Start is to assist children to be ready to learn when they start Grade 1 studies. Best Start Services are delivered in convenient and easily accessed locations across our communities.

Lambton Rural Child Care operates three Best Start Program locations:

  • Dresden Area Central School
  • East Lambton Elementary School
  • Errol Village Public School

Each location offers a variety of programs which may include:

Preschool Early Learning Program (PELP) – This free service is available for children 31 months to four years of age in a school setting and licensed early learning environment. PELP helps children gain school readiness skills, through play, with their peers. Children living within Lambton County are entitled to 16 sessions per month. Children living in the Municipality of Chatham-Kent are entitled to 20 sessions per month. These sessions consist of a two and a half hour period in which your child will attend program.

Half Day and Full Day Learning Program – Half day of care is a maximum of 4.5 hours and a full day of care is a maximum of 9 hours.

Before and After School Care Program – This program is available for school-aged children from Junior Kindergarten to 12 years of age, extending their day before and after school each weekday. This program allows your child to be transferred from a stimulating childcare program to their classroom with seamless effort. Please contact our Child Care Manager for more information or to register your child today!

Please tune in to your local radio station for any school closings or bus cancellations.
